Lots of confusion, let's see if I can help out

Pigeonbasics was setup to be of benefit to fanciers, this is the reason we do not charge for any of the services [present services; club/federation mini-site, liberation weather, member or seller on this forum] even though some of these have had major investments in time and money. Birds for sale was setup because it was (and is) of interest to a great number of visitors - I didn't see any reason to charge for it, because as I said it was of benefit to the fancy and new visitors.

Selling birds on here; we request a voluntary donation on the receipt of a successful sale, but there is no requirement. I feel that if we've helped you out, you should help us out, be that a donation or something else.

Paying for Sales. It is an issue of fairness, not we necessarily need the money (see below). If someone sells a couple of latebreds, and donates say £20; and someone comes along and sells the same but does not donate; it is unfair on the person who did donate -'Why should I donate if x didn't?', and it is unfair on the site.

Money and Pigeonbasics. I note that various comments of 'my forum costs £x to run, it must be about making money'. Firstly its not about making money, its about fairness as noted above, and lets be honest if you sold a pigeon, should you not share a percentage of that with the person or site that helped you sell it? Secondly costs. Pigeonbasics developed from free hosting, to something like £8 per month hosting, however due to the popularity and number of visitors to the site and forum, we now rent our own dedicated web server. This is now a requirement due to the scale of the demand (does anyone remember the 'CGI Full' error a few years back?!). Therefore it is unfair to compare the costings of Pigeonbasics with some other websites.

That being said I no longer pay for Pigeonbasics out of my own pocket (I am not in a position to do so), it must at least cover itself. And that said I don't take any money from Pigeonbasics to cover any of the time that is invested in developing and maintaining it (disregarding the Shop, where I would like to take something from the work that goes in, however do not at present).

Back to the issue of selling birds. I have noted the disparity between donations and successful sales, and some form of opt-in eligibility to post items for sale has been thought through, and may form part of the pending review of the forum rules and guidelines.

I would like to hear opinions on the method of regulating sellers, and collection of donations.

the collection side ifeel would be easeir with an adress rather or with card if needed  the sale of birds should be as someone said monitored with full details shown so if they mess about the are not allowed to bid

Could always have a thread that shows the people who have kindly donated to the site who sold birds wouldnt have to disclose how much just a way of thanking them for donating   Not sure if anyone is selling birds that they should not sell them under their proper name and not some unknown alias too many first time posters appear just to sell birds and makes it very difficult to find out anything about them or their birds

baffls me webmaster puts it out for opieon  after all comments weres everyone gone?

How about allowing those that donate pigeons to the pigeonbasics fund (online auction) free advertising and charge an advertising fee for those that dont.

i think people who use this site for posting non for sale things should be aloud to see but not the ones who only use this forum to sell!!!

maybe everyone who has sold birds thruogh the site should donate to the sites sale for funds,, I have done this and feel its a good way to give something back to the site,, lets get one going again to raise funds,, but everyone who uses the sale section should automatically donate a pair..

this way the site will get more than just a small donation.. also it helps the members try other birds from all over the country..

also when you donate a bird it should be a good un..

well there is 2 from me whenever they have a sale.. maybe more.. depending when the sale is..

But that is not what I meant and well you know it. If - as in any walk of life - you wish to learn, thenexpierences matter, quite a lot. The saying 'A wiseman learns from others mistake ... a fool by their own' is not really an issue, for any of us can be conned... like nipping down Stoke for a bargain lol   But many learnt from  the poor git that did it lol.   . So most on here are careful a mite, and spout out when they smell a rat, imaginary or real. But the newbie is apted to be more keen... hence more vunerable sadly. But that goes with the territory I guess!

i have no objection to donate birds for sale  after all the fund is there to help  the guys who are selling birds on the site know thereselfes that they should make a donation  if they do not want to then i think they shouldn take a good long look in the mirrow and feel ashamed  

i myself put two youngsters in the auction cos its for a good cause i also sold a couple of youngsters very cheap just to help with the corn bill
i did'nt donate but i did for the auction which i think was ok

i think maybe a small percentage of the sale price should be charged but the thing that really bugs me is the same people who come on and start a lot of crap in the for sale threads i think this should be knocked on the head ASAP!!!

There was no hidden agenda in my post Roland, and yes I was conned by Coxy but just because I was does not make me a fool, I have been a fool for a long time before I dealt with him and not ashamed to admit it, and a lot of people have learned from my mistake, also a few less from this site and other sites have been conned because I did
Eveyone should be made aware or protected as much as they can from such things happenning to them although like you say, it less experienced that fall prey to such dealings, being inexperienced does not make you a fool, I have plenty of experience of that  

many of us have been ripped off with pigeons in one way or another but some dont like to admit it DO THEY  ?????

Well I've donated young birds to the site, and have sold youngsters indirectly through the site. Have never advertised on here. Have however given birds away to new starters. I would like to think this would be perfectly acceptable to the webmaster. If not send me a pm I wouldn't be offended. I do not like to see some on here selling on a regular bassis.
