Just to clarify on the costs of running this site, yes it is free for people to use, but the site is not run for free, Richard has to pay for the site in terms of the using the web space as it were and also consider the size of the site, its not just a forum there are many other aspects to the site and it doesn't pay for itself.

The issue of selling birds on here is always an issue, especially in terms of who the sellers are and the amount that some birds are sold for, but I think that in the coming months Richard is going to put something in place for sellers in terms of confirming who they are etc (I'll check with him when he comes home from work)

all that needs to be done is a confirmed address where the seller is to richard ,as long as he is happy that, thats all that counts.any member can contact richard then to confirm he/she is a genuine seller.
if a seller sells more then a fair amount(regularly) then they could in theory pay a bigger amount then say someone selling a few birds.
these fanciers could be charged extra because they would be considered traders and not the ordinary many off the street selling a few birds to cover corn costs etc.
i dont sell birds myself ,but  i think this would be fair and give more to keep this site running better.

i do not think its a problem birds being sold on the site it will give most a chance of getting a good deal at fair prices  and if any one is over the top members will point this out  so better chance of getting good stock  it should be left to members selling to donate  something whats fair
cheers Alan

Is it expensive to run the site?

You still better off asking Richard, its not my place to say how much, and my post of this thread was just in response to those who said that it doesn't cost anything to run this site

Maybe an idea, with over 3000 members on the site a token payment of £1 each to join would more than cover any costs to run the site, or would it have to be more than that, say £2 or £3 pounds each
Instead the big studs I am sure could split the running costs for advertising on the sites along with the other advertisers that are on the side bar

I think that as long as the site has a donation all is fine. I believe that novices / new - comers etc. will have to learn like most of us did / do. Hopefully they know the grass is not always green and crap can have a smell of roses to camouflage deceitfulness. But alas alack, this is fundamental, a part and partial part of the game. Indeed of all games and walks of life. Bet your bottom dollar that those conned are either always subjected to be conned, or will never be conned again... Well at least not easierly. Great if they can ask in confidence certain ones they feel the have a rapore, a respect / trust with. Indeed the best thing for any novice is a sound mementos. They can get this on here. For instance sadly a certain flyer will be packing up soon. He will have good pigeons; tried and tested at sensible prices... an others  good deals will undoubtedly follow.
For another instance there are two fanciers on here that I don't, personally, have a lot of time for... but would recommend their’ birds.

i own a forum and paid for it ive spent around £100 advertising £60-70 to set up i have 4 sponcers i dont charge them a bean one forum the same as mine charges his sponcers £1000 a year for the runing costs . dont get me wrong the is a lot of hard work that goes into a forum if the owner is making mony from it i have no issues with that but what do the mods get out of it they do most of the work once a forum is up and runing

money isn't being made out of it, any money that comes from the site either goes into running it or goes into the pigeonbasics fund, this whole website is for pigeon fanciers and to benefit them

I don't think the issue is that Richard making money out of the site, as long as he is upfront about it, good luck to him or anyone else, but there are are people that defintely do, dealers and studs can come on here and sell their wares and only one that I know off "S Swilcox" makes good donations to the site, I am sure there are more.
The issue is to seperate these guys from the normal fancier who sells or gives his excess stock for minimal sums of £30 or less.

the pigeonbasics fund is a brill idea ive seen loads of help given out on here whats not seen on other forums. giving a donation is a good idea i would if i was to put birds on here but once you start charging it changes will the forum be counted as a bissnes ie if loads of birds are sold what about tax it would not wash with mr tax man that the money is used for running costs
