sorry to hijack, but on the subject of S Wales fanciers, does anyone know about any old members of clubs around the central/m4 Newport area? I'm talking 1970s now!

Paul, we are also in South Wales, not far from Ant.
I wouldn't bother with Louella and look around your area for something to get started with.
Again you are welcome to a pair of youngsters next year.

Thanks. My dad (no longer with us) knew someone called Ossie(?) Reynolds. He used to have a window cleaning round and might have lived off Corporation Road, Newport. I could be wrong as I was young at the time. My dad used to bring a whicker basket of pigeons home and it was a real treat for me to throw them in the air to go home. Must have been about 30 or more years ago. If anyone knew Ossie (might be wrong spelling) would love to hear about him.

Nownow David you kep that quiet!
Paul, you may find that joining any club that has already got ETS may put you at a dissadvantage unless you buy your own. The grant will have been applied for to supply current membership with equiptment and as grant limit is £5000 unlikely to have purchased spare equiptment.

Yes Phil, I did keep it quiet. But always remembered the thrill of taking those smooth birds out of that basket and throwing them into the air. Was always amazed that they were going to fly all the way back home. I guess I've never really lost that. Strange but true

my first memory of pigeons was wheeling them down to the club on a pushchair with my father.he would have sometimes three baskets all on top of each other by the time he got there.

A lot of that has been lost now with small clubs, the banter on a friday and sat night, club shows etc through the winter all used to be part of the enjoyment, now if you win to much you become an outcast!

i personally wouldnt  judge a club from a single persons view, i would ask around and judge for urself.
as someone may have a grudge against a certain club , so i would get some info off local flyers, about clubs in ur area.
hope u get sorted.

it is when you've got a good team around you which i have.
The problem is your tied to it, I don't mind the job but I can't give 100% to it and can't be at the club every marking and checking night.
This year 1 current and 1 ex members have caused problems which along with my kids now being at an age they want to do things at weekends has made my mind up to let somebody else have a turn.

im disturbed by your recent postings on here regarding the pill rpc
and would like to know where you got your info from and explain yourself

1) you have never even applied to jion the club or had intentions to do so
2)yes we were awarded the lottery funding for our elderly and disabled fanciers which stands at 80 % of them out of the 25 we have
why you should find reason comment on this i dont no has its got nothing to do with you

3 what other club in the country offers its membership

3a  social evnings through out the year for fanciers and spouces and families
3b family days trips out in the summer for its membership
3c  annual trips to holland and belgium
3d breeder/buyers
3e yb ring schemes
3f  free membership for junior members under 16

so for you to indicate that the club is clicky and unfriendly has you put it we aint doing bad are we

if i remember the last time you came to the club some 3yrs ago you accused one of our members of having and showing one of your pigeons which caused distress to the member concerned who challenged you to accompany him to his loft and prove your aligations which you refused
for which you later sent a letter of appolige to the club about your actions and behaviour that day

the club is run in the right mannor with everything above board for the benifit of its membership and does`nt warrent your accusations for which i would like  to appoligise for the re,marks made

i think a balanced approach was made when one of the members on here said ' don't judge any clubs by one persons experience '    i suggest you invite this young gentleman to your club and show him how nice your club is by inviting him to a ' basketing night '      And if your lucky to get a new pair of hands to help out he may want to join your club
Can't hurt anyone to ask ?
