Good Evening,  I really need to see if there are any fanciers located in Dover who can assist with catching a bird that appears to have found a new home on the local rooftops and woods.

It first came to notice some 5 weeks ago, fed it uncooked rice and watered it, as per the associations advice, however, have never been able to get close enough to catch it to check its rings for any numbers etc to re-unite with its owner.

Personally I am petrified of picking any sort of bird up.  it has remained in the area now, appears to have a few friends amongst the wood pigeons, though it is now starting to look a bit bedraggled and thinner than it first was.

I really would like to get someone who knows about the birds to come and retrieve it, your association cannot help as they need the ring numbers (it has a green one on one leg and a grey one on the other).  It appears to help itself to split bird seed and drinks happily from my bird bath, but I am sure it would be much happier at home in its loft.

I know the ring numbers would immediately reunite it, however, this is going to prove impossible, and the likes of the RSPCA only refer me back to the racing pigeon society, so if you live locally and want to bring your ladders and perform a pigeon rescue..........................get in touch

Cheers

Thanks, but just looked out on roof and pigeon has hopped off somewhere, this is the only problem with him/her, 'it' usually appears around teatime as this is when neighbours and I put out food for birds and other wildlife and I refresh my birdbath water!  Even the wood pigeons have gone!

Friend did suggest lending me her travel cat carrier however, the poor little thing would prbably get eaten by the local cats if I left it out for a while unattended

Robbie, the guys surname is Mitchell and I guess he is the secretary for the local area/club.  yep rang it but got no reply.  Will have a look for bird in morning though I go to work at 7am, but will try it throughout the day whilst at work and then check to see if bird back here again at tea time.  Jus tsaw one of the wood pigeons sat on roof tops a block away from me.  Guess another prob we have is the amount of woodland right by me!

If only there was a way of getting him to come down to the ground whilst people around!

Will keep you all posted and again thanks for the help and advice.

Bit of a daft question I guess, but as he/she is a pigeon, although a racing one, would it not 'mingle' back into pigeon society and survive okay if we never get to catch it?

Cheers, thought maybe as most racers live in a lfot and have adequate food and shelter from their owners that it would find the going a bit tough, as I said he/she does look a bit rough around the edges now compared to some weeks back.

Will have a look for it in the morning and keep trying the number I have and then check again in the evening and will certainly let you know if we manage to retrieve it and send it back to its rightful owner

Cheers
