Well its been a class first season with my old birds. As some of you will be aware I won my first ever old bird race taking 1st club and 5th fed. After that things have been a bit lean with the birds coming well but being a few mins behind the winners most weeks apart from the channel races which have been gash.

Have sent on average 7 -10 birds a race on natural system against people sending 40 - 60's on widowhood and roundabout. All my birds are yearlings. Lost only 5 birds all season mostly from the channel.

Figured out where I had went wrong with my feeding and sorted it a few weeks ago with one bird just missing out on 10th fed by 2 seconds.

Well this week the birds have excelled themselves and my hard work has paid off.

This weekend won:-

1st club, 1st Fed (beat fed by 2 minutes) (Beat next bird in club by 5 minutes) (Busschaert hen that won first race for me)

3rd Club, (fed pos unknown but in top 10) (Gaby Hen brought off Mike Lycett in 07 to race)

I'd like to thank Davey Barkel and Jim Bambling for their advice. Also like to thank Mike Lycett for the bird that won the third she's been unlucky as has a string of near misses to her credit.

Now the young bird season approaches and I'm on the dark as well as natural this year so I hope I do a bit better than last year where I only got a poxy fourth all YB Season.

Thanks lads best feeling is beating the mob men with their 4 helpers lots of cash and lots of pigeons.

One of them told me to kill her as a YB as she has a frill on her belly and one said it was feather rot and another said pigeons with frills go down and never win in cold winds.

Well just found out that my bird will be in Bobs top 10 in the homing world for the fastest birds in the amal. I've even been told theres a very strong possibability that its going to be the fastest bird on the day from the WDA.

Believe it when I see it in print like but quite a few people have told me that like.

Well its true this weeks Homing World page 69. Paul Fullard of Bearpark fastest bird on the day beating 5,056 birds and all the top men in the Amal. Not bad for a young lad in his first season with old birds who works full time and only sent 6 birds against all the big team business men in the amal who send tons of birds a race.

Makes you choke up a bit at what a gallent effort the little hen has put in to race back to my loft which isn't a palace but she must love living there.

Bit of a rocky moment really just shows you it is possible to win with just a few birds.
Just shows you you get the good birds and they will come for you if you treat them nice.

Shame it wasn't an official amal race then I would have achieved my dream of topping the WDA

We only got a poxy 5th all young bird season 2007 - and that was in the last race
but we don't take young bird racing that seriously - they did very well as yearlings though

Good Luck with your young birds Paulo - good returns are better than positions though

They've come well this season Susan. Now i've got a bit more experience and half the birds are on the dark they are starting to show a bit more. Won a 1st the first race and got a 3rd last week.

Its an education for the yb's really I didn't want to go on the dark but it appears you have to to win. Takes all the fun out of the yb's with the ampount of work you have to put in especially if your a one man band

Well done Paulo you’ve not only kicked a lot of good flyers butts you’ve learnt some very valuable lessons early doors to boot, mainly you don’t need mobs to win and you’ll get the results if your willing to put the hard work in. I wish you continued success.
