i ended up 3rd and 6th club so wasnt to bad what was the returns like up there? alot ov birds missing here in our club 1 from 20, 1 from 18 ,2 from 13 and so on i got 3 outa 6 so wasnt bad
Crap race for me sent 5 and only got one back. 412 miles to me think I maybe was getting carried away and expecting a bit much for yearlings. Still they did Arras with no trouble but that was a WDA race.
We always seem to have crap racing when the birds are away with the up north. The folkstone race was an example of this. Personally I had a good race from folkstone with decent returns and not being too far away from the winner but a lot of people in the club and fed dropped tons of birds guess it was my turn to feel the UNC jinx this weekend.
In my opinion the birds shouldn't have been libbed as late as they were in the day. Libbed at 10.00 am ensured that they had to do the distance in the height of the mid day heat and this has shown in the crap returns most people have had.
Lad who won our club and the fed has only had one back out of the 10 he sent and one of the birds he's lost is a two year old with quite a few chalks from the channel. Last year it was 1st club Arras, 1st fed Arras and 20th WDA Arras.
The lad who was 4th club for the channel lives for the channel races sent 19 and he only had 3 back. One of the top men in our fed only had one bird back and he cleans up and wins good positions in the amal.
With it being the Queens Cup and a national I bet theres too much political pressure on the convoyer to lib. I personally find it hard to believe that it went from the weather being totally crap in france and unsuitable for racing to acceptable conditions in the space of a few hours.

Its nothing to do with the U.N.C. mate we have had very few losses this year i never dropped 1 bird from folkstone, lillers or clermont you are racing in probably the worst organisation in the country ~The Durham Combine if thats not bad racing i dont know what is for one you have a kamakazie pilot for a convoyer the birds are not fed and watered properly and the wagans are pre war furnature wagons which heat up like a pressure cooker thats why they get bad losses i bet the W.D.A. club you fly in don't get as many birds lost !!!!!!! But you are right about the late liberation its no good when we have a late lib from an inland race we get a badun and with the sun being so hot a lot will of folded
Lillers and Arras are a differant kettle of fish to Clermont i can send sprint based birds which win from Lillers or Arras in 2000 we topped the Durham Combine from Lillers with a Blue Cock named the BattleShip he was a massive bird he won 2 weeks previous aswell from Ashford that was his limit 332 miles he could not fly clermont though 405 miles to me !!!!

the same thing with the cock what won clermont for me he was at bourges last year and came the 4th day not quite good enough yet he can win clermont Its not the distance what beats them its the time on the wing !!!!!!!
Suppose its my fault a bit as well Jim. My dad checked the birds for me before they went but maybe I was pushing them a bit too much for yearlings just they had come great from Arras and I thought they'd do clearmont.
Problem is with me at the minute its my first season with the ob's and I don't know what half of them are bred off so its a case especially with the channel of just sending and see how they come.
Got 10 birds that have come good inland including one that got me a win in the club and the fed so they will form the basis of my inland team along with the best young birds from this years yb season. Then the older ones that aren't coming will go to the channel and see how they come.
Still was a bit of a shock to the system for me as have had very few birds lost inland and my first channel race. Guess clearmonts smashed me up.
How do you get on with the gabys then Jim? Cause the bird I'm most gutted about loosing was a gaby cock thats performed well inland and came good from arras? Is clearmont a bit too much for them do you think?
