the amazing thing about these pigeons is that people charge a small fortune for them, but i have never [yet] met anyone that flies them[apart from you of course!!!!]does any one else fly these?

No disrespect meant, but you will find - in time - that 290 miles should be a 'Stroll in the Park' for any bird, even y/b's. If fit and conditioned when sent! Outside of so called smashes - any losses would be a blessing. Saves feed and wasting time on breeding etc.

You know, when I was oin Canada, young birds were flying over 400 miles back to back, yes consecretive weeks!
Had young birds, in 1989, fly the Thurso in an absolute down pour, yes all day long for 3/4 days... yet got 2/3 three, and the other on Xmas day. Been a day earlier would have had 'Pigeon Pie' instead of 'Rook' for Xmas lunch  .

Roland Janssens are sprinters and highly strung - could wind himself up too much and burn himself out just as you say! Crossed they'll add speed to any strain and do the distance but about 200 miles is about as far as they'll do pure (with the odd exception)

I flew the Roland Janssens last year as young birds. I had one Blue ck to win a first prize.
This year as a yearling on widowhood he has scored another first prize.
So i am very pleased.
