just out of curiosity,, i wonder if members would be willing to say  [ 1] how many young birds you bred in 2006?
       [2] how many two year olds left now racing?

out of 2006 youngsters i have 7 from 32

bred 32 got 2 hens left both flown 367 mls as yearlings

2006 ordered 45 rings, I had 32 to race come their first race, now have 19 2006 pigeons left 4 of which are w/hood hens. Selection/losses I'd say were 50/50

Out of 29 I have 3 left one cock two hens.

I will start again   I lost my first reply somehow here. No wonder I race pigeons etc   .
There are friends & there are friends   . "Unfortunately" ???????? I hate you Jimm   , for expecting us to answer this one.
Still !!!!!!!! it's only a bit of fun, so here goes.
I purchased 130 rings in 2006/7 & I then ground them into the ground etc   . this year when I start training in the next month or so  for the 2008 season I will have 45 old birds in my team & we hate old birds as such here, so there has been the odd one or two   that looked at me the wrong way "LMFAO" shall we say, plus a few I stocked etc. Because you carn't beat youth in your stock loft in my view.
PS, Show a bit of pity next time Jimm   "Please", some of us just don't like to be embarrassed etc.

Had 42 to start with lost 7 racing and training, sold some and still have 24, although only 14 of the original batch were cocks and we race widowhood cocks only from yearlings onwards. Still have 9 of the cocks after being broken to a new loft and location as yearlings but have been pretty consistant, they get sent every week and in that time have picked up about 18 cards for us.

I think i had 33 to race that year but got cleaned out at Scotch Corner with y/b's and only have 3 2yr olds left from them 2 of which flew maidstone last year and i paired them together this year and had 2 belters off them for Gladdo but he never cocntacted me when i pm'd him to say they were ready so into my y/b team they go...also have 2 L/B blue cocks from 2006 that had approx 7 kelso's last year and the fed comeback race aswell

Of those 23, 4 were latebreds and unraced;

19 raced , dropped 11.  1 very badly injured and put down = 7 .

End of 2006 = 11.

Beginning of 2008 = 5. 1 stock, other 4 raced last weekend, and all late.

Not exactly a vintage year for racers?    - so far!

Welcome to the real world of pigeon racing   "PMSL" it's great fun isn't IB, when you have a vintage year, now & again & your   about which way to turn, to improve things etc.

looking at the threads so far,,, it really makes you think , most of the lofts ive visited lately have all been in the same boat?  hence the post,,,,,,makes you wonder if yb racing is that important [really just to loose birds ] seems eveyone takes a hammering ,,no matter where,, makes you think what the answer is   [the pigeon is not really mature till 2 y,o , but so few?]

I'm afraid to say Jimm   in my view ????????? this society which we live in these days, just does not have the patience or the time in most cases, to wait around for the pigeons to mature etc in many cases. Many just have trouble surviving a normal day !!!!!!! in the life cycle (we have all become soft & impatient) let alone waiting for 2 years plus to see a result etc I'm afraid.   as it is, thats the modern world "unfortuntely" & the pigeons are the ones that pay the price for it in the long run.
PS,   but it's just  easy come, easy go !!!!!! & it's a throw away society. If we are honest with one another here now.

"hence the post",,,some members dont  fly at all ,,,some members just like flying yb,s , some like sprint birds ,some race cocks some race hens , some race both  i knew of one member who flew just one race per year   the chrismas race , usually collected 3 to 4 thousand pounds out of this one race, but there are many who would like to try the distance and these postings proove that , if you want to try the distance ,5 to 600 miles  you need mature birds 2 years old or older , therefore its worth watching your yb,s and  yearlings ,,,,saving them , not knocking the stuffing out of them

Lot of distance racers dont ever race their birds as ybs as you say jimmy you want older mature birds and not racing them as ybs makes no difference to their performances later on at the distance at all

Started in 2004,only one 04 bird left,today 24 race birds after three years racing,and a couple of them are late breds.thats being on the basis of 40 birds a season,have lost some great birds,but have to say what are left, have been tested to the limit,and hopefully are the best,so SAINTES,here i come,all going to plan.

jimmy how many did you lose in 2006 and how many do you have now?

ive lost less keeping them for racing as yearling but not young birds
