Sputnik for me although I trap through open doors. I find a sputnik beneficial in a few ways, the y'birds can sun themselves in them, look out at the surroundings better in them, they can see pigeons in them which helps getting in the ones in that sod you around and they're handy to get the latecomers in with.
Our stall traps are fitted in flights, the birds spend most of the day in there getting the benefit of a sputnik but also below the stalls we have the opening which is the same size as our baskets so we just put the basket in the opening and drive the birds in for training. This way we can basket 100 yb's in a couple of minutes.
I've used sputniks before and thought they were rather good. Stall traps on the other hand are ideal for someone who's not used to catching pigeons, for example my fiance. If I were racing and had to work then I would use a stall trap so she could clock the bird, but we're planning on getting her used to the birds.
If you get the birds used to you enough you can remove the sputnik and go for the fastest clocking ever...open door. The birds, if trained correctly, should never drop on the shed but go straight through the door and into the box. My granddad mastered well, but her put his stock section on the wrong side of his shed and lost valuable time because of them having to land on it to enter the door. He installed it on the east side of his loft when the best place would have been the west (he was a south road flyer)

What a brilliant idea, have you copyrighted the idea, if not I am on the drawing board on Monday I will change anyway
This year is the first time i have used a sputnik and i was supprised at how easy my young birds trap to it. I have always trapped to the open door but i dont think i will be going back now i have tried the sputnik. michael.

for yb,s a stall trap ,, but they have to be well used to it from babies [if a yb gets a fright being grabbed it wont come in the next week ,,,,,,,,,,or sometimes makes a bad trapper for good]
this idea has been on the go for a while now, its good but some like to handle the birds before basketing as you then make sure they are ok,
Run the idea past Valiant and Billy at the w/e and found out it was commonly used, may be a good idea to handle birds once they are in the basket My idea would be to make traps and also training crates to suit the traps, drive then into the training crate for training tosses and at basketing time transfer them back to the loft if you feel they are not up to it or the race basket if you think they are A lot easier than chasing them or spooking them in the loft
I saw it for the first time about 20yrs ago must admit lot quicker for going like training but like the fifer says I wouldnt like send my birds without checking that they were ok
