this morniing iv gone down to my loft,as i opened the door,one of my stock hens escaped,she not homed at all so i think its the last ive seen of her,but the thing is she's was on 8day old chicks................any ideas on wot i should do?

wouldnt mind a pal from donny lent me the bird,im hoping it might return but cant see it.id better get on the fone....

Sorry to hear about that.   Chances are if she hasn't been at your loft all thatlong she won't hang around there.    You've two options really.   1.  You can let the cock rear the babies on his own.  He'll do it.  2nd option -  and prefered option is to float the baby under a pair of feeders. Maybe there's one in a nest or something somewhere else?  If its within 2 days either side of the age of the babies then the parents ought to take to it without too many issues

my pal has told me the bird has never been out of his loft,so i think it probably went back to geordie land,

its not like ive had the bird for a few weeks either,been in loft about 3months

Keep an eye out and be ready to open the door to the loft so she can re enter

Agree with Slugmonkey, bird may not have gone far, so have others out if possible from 1st light tomorrow to try and bring her down. 3 months is more than ample for her to get a fix, recognising the loft and the way in might be a problem though. Best of luck.

I beat you on that one Ray we had one come back last year that we lost 7yrs ago she sat on the roof for 2 days before she came in

we brought a bird from blackpool 04 (an 03 late bred) never been out of any loft , so six weeks ago i thought ive had enough of shut in birds and let him out, he just went, four hours later he sat on the loft. now he,s flying an hour with the race cocks.

Yeah she was and she was out of some of our best birds got funny idea she been in someones stock loft

yea i left the sputnik open all day but still nothin,see if she's back tomorrow,the cock is still sittin the youngones,gonna keep an eye on him make sure he still feedin them

still a chance shell be back,, in the meantime put plenty maples and small peanuts in the box in galley pots the cock should feed , but theyll start eating at14 days, once they see the cock eating,  good luck

we sold a few babys this year, not to old only just starting 2get up n look out into the loft, some cracking looking birds 3-4 weeks later as soon as they started flying out of there new home one flew the 45 miles back to us.
we did offer to buy it back but rightly the new owner decided to try n break it in again or keep it for stock.
so dont under estimate a pigeon they often fly back 2 there last home then return keep your eyes peeled
we've had good birds turn up 2-3 years after they went missing & we also presssumed they spent a few years in a stock loft somewhere
