As already stated most if not all sprint pigeons have Janssen Blood in them.
We are into the van-reets and have had a good fewwinners from them.
Think that the Sootjens have the Van-Reets blood in them, ???????.
May be wrong

Geschifte (ring number blg 78 6467881), winner of 22x1st prizes, was a full brother to Late Tom ( ring number blg 80 6796080) winner of 3x1st prizes. Both are sons of Tom when paired to a pigeon known as Blauw De Wolfe. Staff Van Reet got six pigeons off Jos Soontjen, one of these youngsters was ring number blg 85 6723031 which was the sire of Grote Tom, who in turn sired the likes of Favorie (8x1st) and Den Don (10x1st I think). blg 85 6723031 was a son of Late Tom and Geschelpt Verherstraeten.Geschelpt Verherstraeten was purchased by Soontjen from a club member who didnt fly too good but this pigeon was always on the prize list. This pair became the top pair and are in all the Soontjen pedigrees. Hope this clarifies things. |

heathcote ,just used nelles van der pol to direct him to the web page re ; the original geschifte pigeon .the one he had mentioned came much later , nelles van der pol founded his loft on birds from hofkens and emile vereheart ,stafs hen 76.6790961 from 75.6234134 son of geschifte and the schone blauwe from the lichte bourges of 64 and the janssen duiven, the dam of 961 was 69.6320035 daughter of the driebander and the theeuwsduiven of 66 according to the sales list he had 961 frm hofkens direct , |

Silverwings, you stated that Van Reets and "SOONTJENS" cary the blood of Hofkens in them. As an example you mentioned Geschifte. Well the Geschifte of Soontjens isnt the Geschifte of Hofkens, so thats what I was clarifying. The rest of my post was giving a little history on the pigeon That Staff had called Grote Tom, which is where Van Reets and Soontjens have a connection. If I misunderstood your post then accept my appologies. I have seen a Soontjen pigeon with the Driebander in its blood but that come from a cross that Manfred Fossen (Germany) put into it (Vet Bol X something with Driebander in it), Hofkens not what Jos Soontjen put into them as far as I know. |

The best sprint pigeons are the ones that win people keep on goin on about this breed that breed yet 99% of pigeons are just a mixture of others if you like 2 birds and they win pair them together a pure any thing can be brought any where a pigeon with 10-15 1st is rare but i know the one i would go for |

ive been looking at vercammens record in belgium as the top pools winner well that looks like a damn good recomendation for a sprint/middle distance strain 2 me hes selectively breed a strain that will sprint well in even the hardest conditions
ps weve got mainly van hees there an alrounder famed for its capability of winning at all distances if that clears up the confussion |

The Gerard & Michael Van Hee were imported bu Louella in the early-mid 1970's. Such lines as "Motta" and "Patrick" etc. Dad had 'em in 1975 & they were, and remain a superb 500 mile pigeon. No way can they possibly be construed as a sprinter. |

Nowt but clean food & clean water for 72 hrs prior to basketing. Too many birds are offered stuff they do'nt drink properly & this just brings on dehydration that bit faster. |

I like to think that all my birds are delbars (which aren't very good on the sprint or so they say) but I've had winners from 62 mile, I am beginning to think a pigeon is just a pigeon it'l either win or it won't, afterall, the winner is the first bird home whether its a delbar, janssen, van reet or whatever, Its our job to get the pigeon home quicker than anyone else. you have to keep em fit and healthy, if you haven't got these things, nothing else will do. |

vanreet joined forces with jos sootjen in a breeding programme with each others birds for experimental purposes, thats why you will see sootjen names in van reets, luke geerinx got them off sootjen and was the only fancier to beat jos with youngbirds at the time. But a question may well be asking is were did the old tom come from what breed was he as jos said he wasnt a janssen pigeon. |
