Theory is good, but Practical validates theory! Its extremely hard to reach the top, and once there, its even harder to stay there. Here in the North East, we don't have rocket scientists, but we do have some extremely top class and competitive pigeon men. I am sure they all found it "not hard" as they worked their way up to earn their Champion status! If it was as easy as suggested, why arent we all the top fliers?
Couldn't agree more if it were easy everyone would be winning
Yep, had a fellow flyer sum it up just this week. I asked 'with the Fed radious as they are, I shall bother to join ''''' Club. I mean does anyone near this area ever get a look in'? His answer was. 'Well of course, just as the North East normally dominate the MNFC, Like wis our fed ... if Wind changes of course then it is...' No! Not all the best flyers live in prime locations, but the Best won't beat those that do'! Soin reality when buying birds do the homework, and at the top put, Location / wind and how many!
Regardless of all the hyped up strain names, and there are new fashionable ones each and every year, there are only two types of pigeons, GOOD ONES AND BAD ONES! Pedigrees are only as good as the person that is writing them!

My sentiments also.
Very true merlin i seem some very impressive pedigrees in my time but for every good bird you breed out of any strain you will probably breed a lot more that arent Id much rather go by what i think when i handle a bird that what i do reading about it on a piece of paper I stick to good birds to good birds proven on there performances not on what they came out of
Spot on- it is not the pedigree that makes a great racer its the management 80% of the time.
I have been racing winners for 50 years and if I was to name a specific breed it would be the hanssenes have proven for me, even the breeds I have crossed with them.

yes and paper can take on anything you care to put on it, the one thing that the pedigree does give you is a license to add a lot more to the price the rip off merchants charge you
Pedigrees only really matter when you select pigeons from outside of your loft,(providing there honest) they may indicate what, distance a pigeon may perform at or breed bird to perform at!! But once you have purchased it, that paper means nowt and then the basic takes over.
Give me a pigeon with prize cards any day but they can often be hard to obtain.
Alot of sense in that, you know exactly what you've got with your own! ,Everyone at Blackpool and the like will try and convince you that you need this that and the other, but is what they have to offer really as good as what you've already got?

Yep 100% bang on, and regardless of strains they are first, last and above all pigeons. As for good ones and bad ones, well that is to as what we want from them.... and not neccate what nature advocated for them.
best pigeon in my loft was bred in 03 off a pair of gift birds my dad was given in 01 from a local fancier its mother was raced 16 times in 2 seasons and it carded in every race it had.the son bred in 03 has has raced in 12 races a season since 04 winning from 50mls up to 512mls which he won as a 2yr old he consistently is in my 1st 4 birds home every week and i still dont know strain he is BUT i don't care because he does the damage
HOW CAN YOU SAY WHICH HAVE BEEN THE BEST BIRDS IN THE U.K.IN TH LAST 30 YEARS, IT DEPENDS ON MANY THINGS SUCH AS DISTANCE, E.T.C.THE STAF.VAN.REETS ARE VERY GOOD FOR SHORT TO MIDDLE DISTANCE RACING BUT I CERTAINLY WOULDN.T PUT THEM IN THE SAME CLASS AS THE KIRKPATRICKS OR JAN ARDENS WHEN IT COMES TO LONG DISTANCE RACING.
i agree with this and i no for a fact there is good and bad in every family and most pigeons came from the same orgin if you trace it back to 100's of years ago, so how can there be a best
all pigeons in my loft have to race up to 300mls as yearlings no matter what they were bred from because only the basket will tell you if you if they are anygood or not
