im pretty new in racing pigeons,i hopefully gonna start racing this season,i have a team of 30 so far, today i let them out for there daily routine, the pigeons were flying around as usual, then landed on loft roof,a few was on the floor when sunddenly this hawk came out of no where,my pigeons took off,i thought it had missed and went to take a look anyway in next doors garden,as i look over the fence, the hawk was there with one of my birds,it saw me then took off,my pigeon managed to take off, right in too next doors patio doors.. blood everywhere
i managed to catch the little hen, luckily i think shes gonna make it
the hawk had grabbed her under her wing,i think she's more shocked than anything
HI MADAS,SORRY TO HERE OF THE HAWK ATTACK,I WOULD BE VERY CAREFULL NOW AND KEEP THE BIRDS IN FOR A FEW DAYS AS NO DOUBT THE HAWK WILL BE BACK.WITH THE BIRDS MOULTING AND THE WEATHER NOT BEING SO GOOD THIS TIME OF THE YEAR I TEND TO KEEP MINE IN MOST OF THE WEEK AND JUST LET THEM OUT ON A SUNDAY FOR A BATH BUT KEEP A EYE ON THEM AS IF THEY HAVE BATHED THEY WILL HAVE LESS CHANCE OF GETTING AWAY FROM THE HAWK OR CATS.
Get some old cd's and put them on all sides of the loft shiny side out and hang some from any trees you may have in the garden these usually distract the hawk as it flashes past or when the sunlight shines on them. Also vary the time you let your birds out so the hawk can look elswhere. Now they are moulting I never let them out unless I have to, for a bath etc even then I vary the day
hi madas hope you have luck with the c.d.,s ,if your going to race pigeons successfully , you have to keep down the vermin. rats, mice, stoats,if they dont want the birds , they want the birds food record traps will and do catch everything that wants to eat your birds[mice excluded ] a simple mouse trapor sorrex mouse poisonwill sort them out , when my birds are out i am watching all the time , i keep my air rifle with me my air rifle has a good quality sight on it , i aint missed any thing yet . bye the way , i tried the c.d.,s without success, a hen sparrowhawk was perching withina metre of them . i aint getting bothered with any kind of vermin at the moment , but needless to say something will turn up any day , i,ll be waiting
