Must be someone around and if they do make u disinfect your crates after each race which I totally agree with there are going to be a lot of people after them ur not going to be able to do that very easily with wicker baskets What about whoever supplies the crates for transporting poultry
Wish it was that easy speedbird would have my ad in the books by now plastic crates plastic grills ideal for pressure washing after each race perhaps i should look into who does make these crates
I have 2 plactic crates and have had them for about 3 yrs good for tossing as they have 2 doors 1on the end iuse when i let them out the other on top i use when boxing they cost me $80 well worth the money when you consider the price of other boxes that dont seem to last plus you can wash them out they hold approx 18 birds comfortabley
Stevie, not sure on size of crate you're after. Some of the responses suggest it's for personal use rather than say to fit up a transporter.
My first and second 'training boxes' were (1) wood and (2) aluminium. I've now a third which is a wicker basket.
The main differences I see are weight and watering facilities. Wicker has both!
I really like my Boddy & Ridewood aluminium one - really lightweight but no watering so no water training there, and my alternative water training hasn't been 100% successful as I think it has caused me problems when the birds have been more than one night in the race basket. My only dislike is the 8" internal height which in my opinion should really be 10" minimum. Gave B&R feedback to the manufacturers when I was sounding out the avialability of a 20 bird aluminium crate - they don't do a bigger size, and they can't change the 8" height because it's a spin-off from their show box production line.
Note what you say about Cleaning & Disinfecting, Rose. Anyone given consideration to a single use disposable crate? I've had feedback on cardboard - tried around 40 years ago and deemed unsuitable. Any cheap alternative?
Well, Rose pointed me to the plastic crates the British International Championship Club use, and she speaks highly of them. Check out the crate photos on the BICC mini site on this website.
