Now that most of us have finished or nearly finished with young birds, what do you all do to while away the dark winter months????
We will be paiiring up on or about the 1st of December and attending a couple of late futurity races, apart from that I will be passing away the long hours with my other hobby Crochet Work.
I hope that people will still contribute to this forum

Hello Hyacinth, We just finished seperating cocks and hens and moving the YB's over to the OB sections. And I am pairing my birds up on paper now. Looking through race records and incoporating new breeders and good YB's into my families. I also just finished cleaning, Cleaning, and CLEANING, mostly lots of feathers... I also use a propane weed burner to sterilize. Now the YB section is ready for next years youngsters, our individual breeding pens are ready for the breeding season, and the rest of them are busy filling there nice clean lofts with more feathers. I think you will find that there will be more to contribute to the forum to pass the long hours of winter. I know I certainly have more time then/now. As for hobbies, I have several but pigeons are my passion and I seem to have put hobbies away for web surfing and gathering more info. Yours in the sport. Carol
Carol Fitzpatrick Blue Moon Loft Brooklyn, WA, USA I own a 40 acre hobby farm, I love my critters, but my passion is raising and racing homing pigeons.

Not quite finished racing yet, youngbirds have gone to our last race tonight. The off season is awaiting. Its not too bad but it must be great to have your loft at home.im building a new stock loft over the next few weeks so that should keep me busy for a while.
ARE THEY IN WITH OLD COCKS AS WELL,SOME PEOPLE SAY ITS BEST TO LEAVE THEM FOR A WHILE BEFORE YOU PUT THEM IN A NEW SECTION TO SAVED THEM FROM GETTING TO STRESSED AND STOP THE MOULT.WHAT DO YOU THINK.
CHEERS CARL WAS THINKING OF MOVING THEM BUT THEY ARE STILL IN THE YOUNGBIRD LOFT AT THE MOMENT I THINK I MOVED THEM INTO THE WIDOWHOOD PEN STRAIGHT AWAY LAST TIME I TRYED DARKNESS THINKING THEY WOULD GET USED TO A BOX QUICKER CANT REMEMBER THOUGH HOW THEY WERE THEN.
RENTENIER,ARE YOU HAVING PROBLEMS IN THE CHAT ROOM AS I SEE YOU ARE THERE BUT YOU DO NOT ANSWER MY POSTINGS.WHY NOT SHARE SOME OF YOUR PROBLEMS ON HERE I,M SURE SOMEBODY WILL ABLE TO HELP OUT ANYWAY IT,S ALLWAYS NICE TO HERE HOW FANCIERS IN OTHER COUNTRIES ARE DOING.
I don't know wether to cry or laugh at your posting.
There are many fanciers on the South African Pigeon Mailing list 2 famous ones, Jack Barkel and Dr, Wim Peters and their opinions and answers are respected by franciers from all over the globe who subscribe to the list.
Rentenier, What do you mean a 'proper pigeon forum' ??
Agree with Pigeon Man, THIS FORUM AS GOOD A PLACE AS ANY TO AIR VIEWS. In my opinion, not to ask for input from other sources is the wrong way to go. As Pigeon Man says, maybe we won't know the answers, but at least we'll listen !!!
Hyacinth, didn't really care for your closing comment to Rentenier. A bit much isn't it ?? Surely we're trying to encourage this forum with words of support and help, to any fancier who asks.
i all ways move my darkend young birds 2 weeks after the racing stops and it dose not stop them from going through the molt and they get there box ok and are quick to learn were there new home is
I only wish we had a proper pigeon forum where we we can discuss problems related to South Africa.
Could Rentenier have meant that he wished that there was a proper forum in South Africa, where they could discuss problems related to there? Perhaps his meaning was lost in translation? After all, the guy has not tried to discuss any issues on here yet.
Agree that Rentenier was 'wishing for' an open forum like this website offers, in South Africa. Don't know what the 'list' is, but may be another 'members only' subscription entry arrangement like Steven van Breemen's 'Winning'.
