each to their own, but its not a competion and if you can get your birds over it within 7 days invicible then great but that is then followed by 3 days multivitamins which adds upto 10 days in total and my way costs nothing !!!!!

people make their choices and live by them

regards spencer

oh and as its a virus .... viruses cant be cured only vaccinated against and yet there is not a vacine against YBSickness... think about it... everyone .

hi

I treat mine youngs with:

a. Paramixture injection 4 weeks old
b. ring them.
c. canker tablet
d. cocoxi tablet
e. worming tablet

drinking water 7 in 1

but the parent birds get:

a. canker tablet
b. cocoxi tablet
c. worming tablet

and the drinking water 7 in 1

This year so far I had to treat mine with additional medication for the drop wing/para legs etc?

i hope this helps

Surely that amount of medication cant be good. Most pigeon medications now contain antibiotics of one sort or another, which damages the liver and breaks the immune system down. I never threat for anything until it happens and never(touch wood) have been hit with anything bad. I think prevention is the best cure so I use plenty of vitimans etc.

Just another theory

Simple. Not enough money in it for the drug company's. They wont splash out on research, production, trials & licensing if they thought it would only offer them a small return

I think the most difficult thing about YBS is that its a combination illness, with [probably] virus, bacteria and yeast working away at the bird, and everybody's version will be different, from an odd bird looking off colour to the whole team going down big time - lots of feeding vomited all over the place. Have only experienced the odd bird, and that was years ago.

My advice is much the same as Sammy's - passed on from my clubmates - that you keep the birds in, don't feed them until the retention stops and crops are empty, then switch to a very light, easily digested diet and build it up with a little grain as the droppings start to form up.

I also think that its a 48 hour thing, by 3rd day birds should be getting back to normal, and during this time they would have a crushed garlic bulb per drinker - twice my normal strength - to tackle any combination of microbes. Pay particular attention to loft hygeine, e.g. spray wet patches / wet droppings with disinfectant, pick up and bin vomited feeding before other birds can get at it, and isolate the offending bird etc.
