problems pairing up

I've recently paired up my stock birds (14th Dec) for my first year flying out of my 16 pair, 14 have paired without incident but I have ended up with 2 pair that refuse to even look at each other I've tried swapping the hens to no avail (the cocks have been with both hens for a week each) due to the age of them (all 4 around 7/8 years old) I would really like to get something out them before they finish any tips would be greatly appreciated as at the moment I have run out of ideas

Loft and Aviary Advice

Hi, my grandad kept doves for many many years and loved keeping them. He died very suddenly last February and his wife wanted the doves gone. I decided to keep 7 of them to continue the tradition and remind me of my grandad and rehomed the rest. My partner and I built a large loft with lots of nest boxes/perches and an aviary attached to the loft that they can access as and when they please also with lots of perches. Since last February our flock has grown from 7 to 16 and we have more eggs. I have named and ringed them all and know who the parents are for each of the babies we've had since. My question now is whether they have enough room and how much space they each need? I really am a novice when it comes to keeping doves, it was a spur of the moment decision although I do love having them now. My grandad just had a loft and let his birds fly free around his garden and house during the day (he'd just shut them in at night). I'm thinking we need to start letting them out (or taking eggs away to stop the numbers growing) but I'm worried about losing some to cats, cars on the road etc. Where my grandad lived was very rural so he never really lost any other than to old age. The other option is to build a bigger loft/aviary, we do have some additional space available. But I may be overthinking it and they already have plenty of space. It's about 6 feet wide, by 14 feet deep by 6 feet high (combined loft and aviary). Any advice would be really appreciated

How many stock birds could I fit in a 7ft by 7ft section?

With out any problems. What should the loft design be like for stock ie. how much light,air,floor space?

Any advice for feeding the stock birds whilst not breeding? Would hopper feeding tic beans or pellets be any good? Theres too much conflicting info these days for us newbies.

Remember an old lad down our way who never trained his birds ever ! he only ever Basket trained his pigeons and then sent them to race's !! does anyone still do this ? or has anyone heard of pigeon men who done this , TA MUCH

What is routine for your club/fed transporter in regards to feeding/drinking times in fed racing as I’ve been told they don’t feed in fed races unless held over and have been told they feed every fed race regardless 👍

Timing systems on an open loft

After racing up until the age of 18, and now into my late 30's, I'm now going to start back up again and Im hoping to get the loft built over the course of this year ready for some youngsters early next year 🤞

I've not got the room for a big loft and I was more inclined towards channel racing back in the day anyway, so the plan is to have a small team on the natural and I'm thinking about having an open loft depending on the sparrow hawk situation.

Anyway, what are the options for timing in these days is it all ETS or can you still use the old style clocks? I'm wondering if it would be too much of a nightmare to try and get the birds to trap to a sputnik on race day if they've been using an open hole day-to-day. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am potentially moving to the West Fife / Kinross area, late next year, roughly in the area I have shown in the attachment.

I am wondering which clubs and fed cover this area?

Can anyone help me with where the boundaries are for the local Fife clubs and any other information on clubs in about this area?

Am I correct in thinking there is Dunfermline, Lochgelly, Crossgates and Glenrothes in and about this area? Maybe Perth too, as I seen their name listed on Fife fed posts?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi i am just wondering is there a beginners guide as such or maybe i should say an idiots guide . This site is really good and i am enjoying looking around all the different topics however there is a ton of info and opinions, my worry is if i take a bit from here and a bit from there for a start i will just end up going round in circles, so looking for a basics section, strong foundation i guess if anyone knows of any good articles videos etc any help would be much appreciated. Long story short i have adopted a year bird that the owner did not want after it got lost in a race, at the minute it is in a aviary with a large rabbit hutch for accomadation. My aim is to get it a mate and eventually let them fly out, i am not planning on racing them. So is this feasible if it is what is the best way to go about it. any help appreachiated.

Should we and is it fair to be sending unlimited number of pigeons to every race.Its certainly discouraging a lot of fanciers and itâ€™s time to set a maximum number that can compete for the 1st Position s and the Silverware.In football we play 11against 11 or race the Coe efficient system for all the Championships simaler to the Golden Duif.

On Saturday night I forgot to close my young bird sputnick trap. Next morning I found 3 bird's had been killed 1 was on the loft floor the other 2 were under the loft. At first I thought it was a cat. But morning in my main loft I found a yearling hen dead with it's head ripped off. I am now thinking it's a rat. Any suggestings how I can catch it ?

Hi guys is it normal for my young Pigeons to fly nearly 3-4 hours ignoring me as I let them out one evening and did not come in until 9.30pm!!!! 12 out of 24 listens and went right in for food but I removed the trough as a punishment for the others

Iâ€™m cracking up, how do you all keep your Pigeons flying longer as mine is so lazy lands on loft or house roof, Iâ€™m thinking of the flag system to keep them up in the air, I cannot use tennis ball as if goes in the neighbors garden itâ€™s gone as they got dog. Itâ€™s just to keep my birds fit for racing but itâ€™s crap so lazy the lot of them.
